Katie and Enrique wanted their wedding to be a gathering of everyone that meant the world to them. They planned a meaningful ceremony in their home church, and then threw a fabulous party with the help of wonderful friends — what more can you ask for a wedding day, except a setting out of the pages of a magazine, and a bright, warm sunny day. After photographing urban Toronto weddings for a bit, it was a treat to photograph a wedding day filled with rustic DIY touches, casual bohemian asthetics and backyard romance. How much more lovely can a wedding day be to photograph? Katie and Enrique were married at their community church and then came back to a backyard reception filled with friends and family.
The day began with Katie getting ready with the help of all nine of her girls, and Enrique hanging out with his guys. While the guys brought out the beers and cigars, at Katie’s house, the girls were all business helping each other get ready. Katie had put her artistic skills to work and made simple flower bouquets for the day, but she was surprised at the church with a beautiful hand tied bouquet with beautiful white peonies, hostas and Queeen Anne’s lace from their own garden!!
Their ceremony was held at Faith Christian Reformned Church in Burlington. It was a celebration of not only their marriage, but also the strong church faith both of these two share. Afterwards, it was time to head to the backyard reception hosted by close family friends. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I went out to see the location earlier in the week with Katie to plan out the last details of her photos and timeline. I have never seen such a fabulous outdoor location filled with antiques and roadhouse memorabilia. Best of all, the entire yard extended into a back patio complete with it’s own bar and outdoor pizza oven.
Although we had talked about going doing bridal party photos at several nearby locations, in the end Katie and Enrique decided to use the patio and garden areas for their photos. I was so glad they did because the late afternoon sun worked perfectly. We set everyone up at a communal table on the back deck to take bridal party and family photos, and created a casual Tuscan-y outdoor feel of good friends gathered for good times.
Katie and Enrique — your day was fabulous! You are blessed with so many loving family and friends, and you two made the cutest couple. Thanks so much for letting me share it with you!
